New Apparent Case of Serial Plagiarism Uncovered

Yasar Albushra Abdul Rahiem Ahmed is a medical doctor at the National Guard Hospital at the King Abdul Aziz Medical City, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It appears Dr. Ahmed, originally from the Sudan, has found a solution to the problem of being a busy doctor with time-consuming scholarly publishing requirements: he copies others’ articles and publishes them as his own. This strategy saves so much time.

Dr. Ahmed and his several co-authors appear to have copied at least nine scholarly articles, changed the titles, and successfully submitted them to several different journals. Moreover, the evidence shows that two apparently original articles by Dr. Ahmed and his pals have each been simultaneously published in two different journals, creating two cases of duplicate publication.

Three of the completely-plagiarized articles were published in the Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Research, and these articles have been retracted, for which we commend the journal (even though it didn’t create any retraction notice; it just completely removed the articles without a trace).

Two other articles published in the Education in Medicine Journal have also been retracted, and these retractions bear formal notices here and here. We congratulate this journal, published by the Medical Education Department, School of Medical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia, for this swift and appropriate action.

Dr. Ahmed’s article “High-Dose Methotrexate Toxicities Prevention and Management” is published in two OMICS’ journals: Chemotherapy and Journal of Cancer Science and Therapy. In the latter journal, the article’s title is cleverly changed to “Prevention and Management of High Dose Methotrexate Toxicity.” OMICS knows about the duplication. In an ironic reversal, OMICS itself is the victim of an author, for Dr. Ahmed simultaneously submitted the same paper to two different OMICS journals. As of this writing, neither article has been retracted.

The table below and  here [PDF] details the plagiarism and duplication.

If I were a patient of Dr. Yasar Albushra Abdul Rahiem Ahmed, I would request a different doctor.
